I need to know to this because I am researching evolution and I cant find anything on modern genetics and how it relates to evolution.

Yes. I believe we can say that modern genetics confirms that species do evolve. Experiments with bacteria and other organisms with short generation times have shown that speciation events do occur or in other words 1 species can split and diverge into more than one species over time.  In these types of experiements, differences can be observed on a genetic level.  There is also more and more evidence of genetic links between species which were previously unknown.
