I've been an avid career of field hobbiest for 40 years and need help. When I was in Sydney, Ne. I discovered medium sized reddish ants living in heeps of small gravel dumped by someone along exits on i-80 & surrounding areas. They do definitely sting but not severely.They've actually adapted to a "small gravel habitat" for their nests, Queens, soldiers, workers & eggs. Is there a given name for this species and are other types of black or any ants known to be anywhere around Lincoln? I'm not interested in Large "Carpenter Ants!
