There are a wide variety of organisms that are considered to be plankton.  Plankton is any floating organism living in the pleagic zone of the ocean. This can include anything from single cell microscopic organisms to something as large as a jellyfish.

There are two examples of plankton: phytoplankton and zooplankton.  Phytoplankton use photosynthesis to make food. Examples of phytoplankton are diatoms and jellyfish.  Zooplankton eat phtyoplankton and other microorganisms that live in the water.  Examples of zooplankton inculde amphipods and copepods.
